Thomas David Knight Obituary (1941 - 2022)

Thomas David Knight of Madison, NC, died at home, surrounded by family members, on Saturday, February 5, 2022. He was a dedicated family man, first and foremost, and a servant to the community in which he was born. He was a proud veteran (US Army) of eight years, a small business owner, a former school board member, and a farm affiliate. He contributed to the success of many industries - Burlington Mills, a farm machinery dealership, Firestone Tire Company, Miller Brewing Company, Humana/Cone Health. He represented the "best practice" in everything he did. He will be most missed, though, as "Poppy", "Dad", "Daddy", and "Papa" to those who loved him. He had a way of finding the best in each family member and of reminding them of their value to one another. He did not mind being a bit goofy at times, or being the one to lean on. And while he will be missed by those he is leaving behind, he will also be ever present in that troupe of angels watching over them. He, his life, and his legacy will be celebrated with a memorial service at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, NC on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 7:30 pm. Visitation will commence just prior to the service at 6:30 pm. As there will be no subsequent graveside service, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth NC 27357, in lieu of flowers. Tom is survived by his three children, Tammy, Thomas, and Jennifer, a daughter-in-law, Sandy, and two grandchildren, Justin and Kasey. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended Buchanan and Knight family members - his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cindy and Donald Benjamin, his sister-in-law, Martha Ann Sharpe, and his many nephews and nieces - but most especially by two of his nephews, Brett Knight and Mark Buchanan. He is preceded in death by his wife, Madeline "Kitty" Knight, mother and father, Edith and Billy Knight, and brother, Dean Knight. Online condolences can be made at www.colonialfh.net.
