Shirley Edmund M. Goad Obituary (1924 - 2017)

SANDY RIDGE Shirley Edmund Marshall Goad, 92, passed away, Sunday, July 9, 2017 at LifeBrite Community Hospital of Stokes. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment will follow in Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Mr. Goad was born December 9, 1924 in Patrick County to the late Jesse Thomas and Mary Alice Marshall Goad. He was retired from the Department of Transportation. Mr. Goad was a United States Army Veteran and a member of the Sandy Ridge American Legion. Shirley was a gentle, soft spoken man, who loved and provided well for his family. He will always live in the hearts of those who loved him and will be missed every day for the rest of our lives. Shirley was a loving husband, daddy, grandpa, great-grandpa, and great-great-grandpa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dorsey, A.J., and Harold Goad; sisters, Mertie Hall, Hazel Farthing, Hassie Hill, Maude Hiatt, and Dorothy Goad. Survivors include his wife, Annie Laura Hall Goad; daughter, Deborah Goad McHone; son, Dilly Goad; grandchildren, Darrin (Anita) McHone, Marsha McHone, and Linda Goad; great-grandchildren, Nicole and Jimmy McHone, Samantha (Adam) Garrett, Trent Goad, and Jensen Gauldin; great-great-grandchildren, Jasmine McHone, Briyelle Graham, and Willow Grayce McHone. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of LifeBrite Community Hospital of Stokes and Dr. Newsome. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel and all other times at the home.
