R . E. Steele, Jr. Obituary (1936

R. E. Steele, Jr., 85, of Mayodan, passed away early Monday morning, November 1, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, November 3rd, at Colonial Funeral Home & Chapel with burial to follow in Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at the chapel and other times at the home of his daughter, 712 Virginia Street in Mayodan. Born March 31, 1936 in Stokes County, NC, R. E. was the son of the late Realus Edward Steele and Beaulah Tucker Steele. He was a retiree of Burlington Industries after 42 years of service and was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church. As a young man, R. E. was a very talented baseball player with aspirations to play professional ball. However, the death of his father brought about responsibilities to family that interrupted that dream. He took those responsibilities in stride and set about doing what needed to be done to take care of those he loved. R. E. was an avid Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees fan, along with being a follower of University of NC-Chapel Hill sports. He is survived by his son, Jerry Steele of Mayodan; daughter, Mitzie Steele of Mayodan; four grandchildren, Michael Livengood (Gabrielle), Mitchell Livengood (Kasey), Demetra Woods and Adam Steele; five great-grandchildren, Porter Livengood, Grayson Livengood, Brylee Woods, Brody Woods and Bentley Woods; brothers, Ronnie Steele of Patrick Springs, VA, Dale Steele (Donna) of Lawsonville and Reggie Steele (Sharon) of Sandy Ridge; along with three sisters, Sharon Corbett (Charles) of Martinsville, VA, Kay Glad (Danny) of Stuart, VA and Rhonda Steele of Lawsonville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Synthia Nelson Steele; granddaughter, Marlie Steele and sister, Brenda Young.
