Colene James Nelson Obituary (1930 - 2020)

SANDY RIDGE Colene James Nelson, 89, passed away, Friday, January 17, 2020, at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2020, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Nelson was born August 15, 1930, in Stokes County, to the late Jessie and Murphy Lawson James. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Herman Nelson; an infant son; a grandson, Stan Simmons; sisters, Thelma Flynt, Daf Lasley, Ruthie James, and Emma Lemons; and brothers, Paul, Rob, and John James. Survivors include a son, Timothy Nelson (Beth); three daughters, Patricia Lawson (Bruce), Kathy Wall, and Cindy Nelson (Chris Mabe); six grandchildren, Tammy Mabe, Heather Powell, Chris Lawson, Marah Spangler, Jesse Nelson, and Angie Hudson; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and longtime companion, Larry Hodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4543 NC 772 Hwy, Madison, NC 27025. Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge is serving the family.
