Francile Shumake Cardwell Obituary (1939 - 2017)

MAYODAN - Francile Shumake Cardwell, 78, died Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m., Sunday, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the home of Penny Lawson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017, at the Ayersville Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Ayersville Baptist Church Cemetery. Francile was born in Rockingham County on September 13, 1939 to the late James Wesley Shumake and Helen Myra Matthewson Shumake. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was retired from the Rockingham County School System. Francile enjoyed singing in a gospel quartet for several years and was a member of Ayersville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 54 years, Franklin Roscoe Cardwell. Survivors include her loving daughters, Jill C. McCollum and Penny C. Lawson (Jimmy); brothers, Bobby Shumake (Dot), Gary Shumake (Dot); sister Becky Lemons (Howard); grandchildren, Megan McCollum Holt (Melvin), Anthony McCollum, Jr., Summer McCollum, Chase Lawson, Zackary Lawson, Drew Lawson; great-grandchildren, Hunter McCollum, Bryson McCollum and Kendyl Holt.
