E. Thomas "Tom" Alderman Obituary (1948 - 2021)

MADISON - Elmer Thomas "Tom" Alderman, 72, left this earthly life after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Wesley Long Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Ellisboro Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Roberts and Reverend Eddie McClure officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Ellisboro Baptist Church and all other times at the residence. Tom was born July 2, 1948 in Radford, VA to Elmer June Alderman and Sallie Beasley Alderman. He was a 1966 graduate of Madison-Mayodan High School and a 1970 graduate of The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He retired from Miller Brewing Co in Eden, NC after 30 years of service and was the owner of Alderman's Tax Service. He was a member of Ellisboro Baptist Church where he served as Deacon Chairman, Cemetery Committee Chairman, Sunday School Teacher, Church Trustee, and a member of the God & Country Committee as well as a member of the choir and Praise Team. He was also the director of the Challenge to Build Campaign in 2000 to build the current church sanctuary. He also served on the Dan Valley Missionary Baptist Executive Board, Chairman of the Rockingham County Planning Committee for the Elderly & Disabled, the Board of Directors for the Rockingham Council of Bible Education, and a Gideon in the Madison-Mayodan Camp serving as Treasurer. He organized fundraisers over the years for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In January 2021, he was honored by the Rockingham County Commissioners for his service to the county and to his church. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Cynthia White Alderman of the home; daughter, Amy Alderman Griffin (Kevin); grandson, Noah Thomas Griffin all of Madison; sister, Rhonda Brim (Cecil) of Mayodan; brother, John Alderman (Ann) of Burlington and great-grand-dog, Porthos.
