Edsel Harry Dodson Obituary (1927 - 2018)

SANDY RIDGE Edsel Harry Dodson, 90, passed away, Monday, August 20, 2018 at his home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Delta United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors rendered by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Mr. Dodson was born December 6, 1927 in Stokes County to the late Jerry and Docie Duncan Dodson. He was retired from the United States Army and a member of Delta United Methodist Church. Edsel was proud to be a lifetime Mason and Shriner. His love of the army led him to a career in ROTC beyond retirement at Roosevelt High School and Morehead High School. He was an expert marksman in the Army. His greatest passion was his sweetheart, Gladys, to the very end. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Benjamin, Louwill, Bay, Clayton, Chester, James, Randy, and Guilford Dodson; sister, Catherine Moorefield. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Gladys R. Dodson; son, Edsel Stanley (Sharon) Dodson; daughter, Juanita (Edward) Kvietkus; sister-in-law, Joy McMillan; grandchildren, Megan Levy and Justin Dodson; great-grandchildren, Graham and Daniel Levy and Autumn and Noah Dodson. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel.
